New Visions for Public Schools Launches First-of-its-Kind Career Directory for NYC Students

October 6, 2025 | New York, NY – New Visions for Public Schools is thrilled to announce the Phase 3 launch of its groundbreaking Career Directory. Generously launched through a grant from The Heckscher Foundation for Children, this free, open-access platform is a new frontier in our commitment to empowering NYC students with cost-effective or free postsecondary career training opportunities. Designed specifically for the unique needs of the NYC area, the Career Directory provides students and counselors with up-to-date information on over 300 training programs and resources for job placement assistance and other support services—making it a vital tool for navigating the evolving landscape of career training options.

“We’re proud to have been the primary funder behind the New Visions Career Directory,” shared Peter Sloane, CEO of Heckscher Foundation. “Too often, students from under-resourced communities are forced to make career decisions without access to clear, actionable information. This tool changes that. By giving young people visibility into real pathways and opportunities, New Visions is helping to replace guesswork with guidance — and we’re honored to have helped bring that vision to life.”

New Visions has leveraged its extensive network of community partners to provide students with actionable information on diverse and exciting career training opportunities across various sectors. Industries include construction and engineering, culinary and food service, transportation, healthcare, environmental and sustainability work, and more.

“New York City lacked a centralized resource hub for young people to explore career pathways. As a result, many students were forced to rely on chance or their own personal relationships to learn about quality job training programs,” explained Mark Dunetz, President of New Visions. “The Career Directory fills this gap by making it easier for students to find high quality programs that will prepare them for promising careers.”

With a user-friendly interface and regularly updated program information, the Directory presents each opportunity in a clear and accessible manner, providing essential details including services, application processes, and location. There are also resources offered to support counselors and students with additional research to learn more about how an opportunity best fits student interests. Thanks to a new grant from CD&R, New Visions will be able to maintain and update the Career Directory through bi-annual comprehensive outreach for the next two school years. Randy Moore, CD&R Foundation President, shared, “Young people are often told to dream big without being provided the necessary tools. The Career Directory is shifting that paradigm by providing students and the educators who passionately support them with a concrete, equity-driven resource to explore meaningful, attainable career paths. We are proud to support this initiative.”
