Our History: How We Started

The Expanding Visions Foundation was founded and licensed by the IRS as a 501c3, tax exempt organization in June of 2006. Our executive director, Mr. Cornell Lewis began mentoring young men at the middle school his son attended beginning in 1995. From the humble beginnings at the middle school he determined that the youth which he was mentoring needed a caring male in their lives.

Mr. Lewis mentored 87 young men on a weekly basis by going to their homes, feeding them and giving them clothing when needed. With the help of a caring school staff several of the young men had their lives turned around in the right direction.

After 10 years of mentoring, advising and caring for the young men in Columbus, Ohio who came into his care, Mr. Lewis knew that it was time to legitimize his efforts and take the organization to another level. His prayers were answered when Mr. Richard Dent agreed to become part of the plan to help kids on a deeper level. His own love for young men was evident and paramount because of his own four boys.

Since June of 2006 EVF, as it is affectionately known has mentored 65 boys and the number continues to grow with the addition of a female component known as BLOOM (Blossoming Ladies on Our Mission). The parent component which continues to grow, has always been a vibrant edition to our presence in the community. Parents and children meet twice a month and receive teachings on obtaining higher education, stopping the poverty cycle and child rearing.

Expanding Visions will open the eyes of young people. We will ensure that our participants have a positive contact from adults who believe in service to each other and relationship to all.
